Thankful

Andy and I are so thankful for our friendship with Josh & Jenn.  It was such a timely opportunity to road trip and explore the Californian coastline together.  I just can't help but praise God for it!  Travelling with others can be tricky and self-exposing at times (Andy and I experienced this at times in Europe), but Josh & Jenn made it so easy with their jokes, openness, optimism and easy-going attitudes!  It was such a blessing to have all that quality time together and in my opinion, we made a pretty sweet travel quad.  This trip is full of hilarious memories and heart-felt conversations that I will often cherish.  Looking forward to more where that came from, Josh & Jenn!

The hospitality of our family was a profound blessing to the four of us.  It honestly blew me away the way each family graciously opened their home, prepared beds for us, served us breakfast/lunch items and went even beyond these things in genuinely caring ways.  We stayed with Andy's Aunt & Uncle in San Francisco for three nights, then Andy's Mom's cousin & her husband outside of Santa Barbara for two nights and finally my Mom's cousin & her husband in Los Angeles for three nights.  Thank you for sharing your homes, kindness and wisdom with us!

Travel is something I value.  Although, at the end of any trip, I've discovered that it's always less about the travelling itself and more about the people you're with.  It's truly a beautiful thing when relationships have time to be celebrated, enjoyed and built.  To me, all the pieces of travel - the jaw-dropping scenes, unique cultures, delicious foods, alive experiences, strengthened relationships - reflect the grace, love and majesty of our God.  Praise Him!

Balboa Bars & Newport Beach

After the morning and early afternoon at Laguna Beach, we made our way to Newport Beach!  The sand is what stood out to me - lots of it and a distinct sandy colour (ha bad description).  We explored a bit and went up and down some of the streets before treating ourselves to balboa bars (just like Todd and Christy).  Although mostly chilly, this day was a great end to our trip!  We went to Chipotle for dinner and then watched a movie at Tom & Tammy's house (Julia's Mom's cousin and her husband) that night.

Laguna Beach

This was our last full day in California!  We decided to go to Laguna Beach, in search of sunnier skies.  We did end up having about two hours of hot sun on the beach, after sipping Starbucks, walking around and observing a dog bark at a seal.  When we lost the sun, we moved on to Newport Beach (next blog post).
